The shield groaned under the force of the battlehammer that just got slammed into it. A flash of pain shot through Oswell's arm, but fortunately the shield managed to withstand the blow. A shiver ran down Oswell's spine as he beheld the Arena. He had often dreamed about this, but the Arena in his dreams could not hold a candle to its real life counterpart; it was much bigger than he had ever imagined. Two weeks later, the entire group met for the first time. Against Oswell's expectations, he would get to lead a unit of 20 men, all of whom had 'volunteered' straight out of the dungeons. All the guys from Oswell's original group were there too, except for the Silent Man. He had never showed up. Oswell had no doubts why that was. But even without him, it was anything but silent. The large room was shrouded in darkness. Placed along the walls were lamps that emitted a faint light. He knew those lamps existed: they were fuelled by an invisible force called 'electricity'. The world is not a nice place. Of course, some old stories have kids playing on the streets, food for everyone and even houses with pools in the garden. None of those things are here anymore, if they ever were. As far as I can see it the world always has been a terrible place.
