I actually just got one of those figurines from another room, but I tend to draw on instinct. This fellow's huge hand proves that my instinct is sometimes a bit lacking , but I tend to just start drawing a stick figure and take it from there. You basically learn that sort of thing from practice, so you can start off from one of those figurines and eventually you will find you won't need it anymore. I'm actually thinking of spending a day or so just drawing stick figures and sketches of people of various sizes, ages, and genders, so I can practice/refresh my basic anatomy skills again. I see I'm making consistent mistakes in proportions and posture, so I have to work on that. After that, I need to look into perspective. I remember as a kid I thought perspective was too hard so I never actually learned it... so I have to put in the labour now.

    Practice practice practice!

Will you be drawing using traditional media (pencil or paint) or digital media? Would be awesome if you started drawing again, then we could compare notes and breathe some life back into the Arts section here.
Id be practicing with pencil and pens. I like to start with pencil, get it right, then go over in fine ink pen, then shade in pencil/graphite/charcoal. I always liked black and white and working with the limited colour spectrum that it offers.

My proportions are well off, which is why i probably preferred drawing abstract or when it came to people more stylistically/cartoonish. Id like to buy one of those figurines to get my proportions right. The gif that you put earlier shows techniques a book my Granny gave me years ago has in it. Drawing the oval shaped head, then making it 'round' by drawing a bendy line over where the eyes would go, mouth... get the basic shaping right. Also, i imagine the technique for the figurine is similar; start off with basic shapes.

Couldnt draw to save my life now. But yeah, practice. Practice wasnt practice for me, it was fun. So all i need are the supplies, a decent bit of music to zone out to and maybe a dutchie, hehe.

Ive always been interested in getting a graphic tablet thingy that you got for drawing. It was WAAAYY down the list though, but im looking to get back into things that relax me more and i remember how much drawing did that.
