OK, the server is now PENDING ACTIVATION. It should be up and running on game release.
Also, a fair few server options have been revealed:
vars.serverName controls the name of the server, as seen in the server browser.

vars.gamePassword - if set, players must enter this password when connecting to the server.

vars.friendlyFire – when set, people can inflict damage on others in the same team.
Off or on? I would say Off to prevent griefing, but some people want it on.
vars.killCam – when set, a killed player gets to see a close-up of his/hers killer for a few seconds.
Off for me, definitely. I don't like the killcam concept at all.
vars.miniMap – when set, a minimap is available in the bottom-left corner of the screen during play.
Should be on I think.
vars.hud – when set, the hud is present.
On, HUD is fine.
vars.crossHair – when set, guns have crosshairs in the center of the screen.
I think we can leave this on too. However, if there's too much spraying going on we might consider turning this off?
vars.3dSpotting – when set, spotted targets are marked with icons in the 3D world.
I would say let's leave this off and rely on communication instead?

vars.roundRestartPlayerCount – when a round is going, if the number of players drops under this number, the round will be aborted and the server moves back to pre-round.

I agree on most server settings except a few:
Crosshair - Got to be OFF. Come on, this isn't some kiddie fps shooter any more
MiniMap spotting - I would turn OFF for less arcadey and better stealth.
As you said for 3dspotting "rely more on comms"
PlayerNames - ON Maybe a bit crap but VERY useful to know who you are talking to especially when there is an enemy behind them.
As you say, we can see how it goes and change as needed....

Yep, server is running it says in the Admin panel. Also, Battlelog is open. Please refer to this thread Whenever you do get a chance to play make sure to keep us updated and get us some info on the multiplayer.
We could start with having it on. This isn't ArmA after all I'll see about turning it on or off. I'm really not sure yet.
As for minimap spotting, I don't mind about that honestly. It's the 3d spotting I'm not so happy with, but minimap spotting was in BF2 and 2142 and never felt contrived or anything. It's not that bad having it on, especially since the minimap only shows a limited area around you anyway. A bit like the shactac hud I guess
Playernames on is something I can agree with. Should make stuff easier for communication.
